Bebo’s Infrastructure Engineers are a critical part of the team across all consumer properties. These positions require a strong technical background and excellent interpersonal skills to implement small and large-scale projects to continue Bebo's aggressive growth and presence on the web. Our environment is fast-paced with user-centered iterative design and development cycles.

We are seeking a brilliant engineer for the Infrastructure team. All members of this team will have a significant role in shaping the technical direction of next generation web apps. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining the core technology which powers the 40-million member Bebo community.

Experience working on high traffic/ high availability / large consumer facing websites dealing with the stuff on the backend, like the VMs, the memcached pool and the databases (esp. Oracle) to insure the site is always up and running at top speed.

Required Knowledge/Experience:

  • Java (Servlets, JMX, JMS, etc)
  • Able to write and debug multi-threaded code.
  • Scripting (Ruby, perl, etc.) - able to use a variety of tools to quickly gather data, do analysis and solve problems.

Bebo is seeking a Senior Web Developer to build, and manage complex integrated advertising solutions on the Bebo network. You will join a team creating solutions that generate tremendous revenues for the company working with top names fortune 500 and traditional media companies.

Required Knowledge/Experience:

  • Solid OO experience with good Java development skills.
  • Advanced HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Good sense of design and user interface basiscs.
  • Back-end web development experience (on Oracle) is a plus.

Bebo is seeking a Badass Flash Engineer who knows how to push the limits in Flash, and create super cool stuff that has not been done before, to join our superstars engineering tea. You will lead the design and implementation of complete products or modules to use in multiple apps. and used by millions of our friends. When the Flash work is done, and till you get the next great idea, you will be hacking some Java code in other application to create seamless and delightful experience for our global community.

Required Knowledge/Experience:

Bebo is looking for a site security engineer to make Bebo a great place for our members to hang out. You'll be building defenses against spam, bots and malware. You'll be working with a variety of folks in Bebo to help analyse problems and provide appropriate tooling to help them help you. You'll also be helping other teams write solid, secure code. You should be passionate about building good software.

Software Engineer, Applications Team (2)

We need a brilliant engineer to help us grow our applications platform with new features and APIs. In particular, we are looking to add a virtual economy layer to allow users to buy virtual gifts and in-game items. As part of the applications team, you will be expected to contribute to all of the decisions around our new features, from task prioritization to what payment partners we should use to what new APIs we should offer. We work in an agile environment with frequent releases, and like to do test driven development and pair programming but are not fanatic about doing it. Our tools are Resin for application server, Oracle for database, memcached for caching, freemarker for templating, Eclipse for development, Junit and Mockito for testing, subversion for version control and hudson for deployment. You should be familiar with these tools or alternatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Write performant, scalable, testable and maintainable Java code
  • Design, architect and implement new features for our 40 million users
  • Fix bugs and improve features according to user feedback
  • Implement APIs for 3rd party developers
  • Integrate 3rd party APIs and payment gateways
  • Handle multiple tasks in a flexible and fast-paced environment

Requirements:

  • Excellent Java OO and algorithmic skills
  • Experience writing scalable and testable back-end code, and understanding of the requirements and tradeoffs of scaling web applications to millions of daily page views
  • Good understanding of web protocols and RESTful architecture
  • Strong familiarity with SQL and relational databases

Big pluses:

  • Experience with social network, games and/or virtual economy development
  • Contribution to open source projects
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks (mootools, jquery, etc)
  • Facebook or Open Social app development experience
